Donald L. Schwochert, age 80 of Montello passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage after an extended illness. He was finally able to let go and join Jesus and his wife who he missed beyond belief. He was born on August 24, 1930 in Buffalo Township, Marquette County to Peter and Alma (Witt) Schwochert. He married Elva Zuhlke on September 30, 1950 in Pardeeville; she preceded him in death on December 14, 2008. Donald served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. When Donald wasn't building homes or working on the family farm; other hobbies that he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, gardening and of course being a wonderful grandfather. Donald is survived by five children: Sarah Stein of Stuart, FL, Linda Raasch of Montello, Rita (Robert) Downey of Dalton, Donald Schwochert Jr. of Montello, and Cheryl Schwochert of Cambria. He is also survived by eight grandchildren as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Donald is further survived by two sisters: Bernadine Broderick and Evelyn Hutzler and also two former son-in-laws, Eugene Stein and John Raasch. What his children and grandchildren learned from him, they will use forever. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elva, eight siblings: Gerald, Wallace, Elmer, Leo, Regina, Clara, Alice and Helen and daughter-in-law, Susan Schwochert (Grams). A prayer service will be led by Father Michael Richel at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 9, 2011 at the Crawford Funeral Home. Visitation will held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Immediately following the service, military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 351 of Montello. Following the service, Donald will be cremated and a private family inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to family. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is assisting the family with arrangements.
