Donald Kallenbach

Donald "Don" F. Kallenbach, age 86 of Montello passed away Wednesday morning, January 29, 2014 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Don was born in the town of Packwaukee, Marquette County to Anton and Laura (Mitchell) Kallenbach on May 28, 1927. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy at the end of World War II. On July 14, 1949, Don married Shirley Walters at the Methodist Church parsonage in Westfield; together they raised their three children in Montello. Don worked for Montello Products for over 20 years and worked for the City of Montello as the Street Superintendent for over 25 years until retiring in 1994. Don served the community as a member of the Montello Volunteer Fire Department for many years and also enjoyed gardening and building bird houses. He was known for his handyman skills and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Don and Shirley took many trips together and family was very important, those memories will be cherished forever. Don leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Shirley and three children: Michael (Helen) of Poynette, Terry of Pardeeville and Laura (Randy) Krueger of Montello as well as eleven grandchildren: Andrew, April, Abraham, Zachary (Rachel), Maggie (Brian), Molly, Eliza (Ross), Stacy, Sara, Heather (Jeff) and Chad (Rachael). He is further survived by twenty-six great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Floyd, Harold, Mildred and Marcella. A funeral service for Don will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. at the church. Pastor Brenda Pulver will preside and burial with full military honors by American Legion Post 351 of Montello will take place following the service at the Montello City Cemetery.
