Donald "Don" Hoffman, age 76 of Montello passed away peacefully Thursday evening, July 31, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Don was born at home on the family farm in the town of Shields, Marquette County on January 9, 1938 to Henry and Bertha (Kuch) Hoffman. He attended the rural country school in the town of Shields as well as Montello High School. He married the love of his life, Barbara Eckstein on November 22, 1979. Don was a life-long farmer, he loved his family, his farm and had a soft spot for his pets. He was an avid antique tractor puller and was named Sportsman of the Year by the local tractor pullers association in 2012. Other passions included: polka music, four wheeling, snowmobiling, deer hunting and Clan Camp. Don was a life-long member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. Don is survived by his wife, Barbara, four children: LuAnn Reber of Montello, Laurie (Bill) Becker of Montello, Dave (Christy) of Van Dyne and Lisa (David) Rainey of Holmen and one step-daughter, Michele (Steve) Lentz of Montello. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Melissa (Jeff Link) Raasch, Matthew (Courtney Riggs) Weber, Christopher Johnson, Autumn Hoffman, Dustin Rainey and Abriana Rainey as well as seven step-grandchildren: Nicholas, Zachary, Dylan, Austin, Branden Lentz, Kelly and Anthony Becker. Don is further survived by two great-granddaughters: Kadence and Abygail Raasch and 4 step great-grandchildren: Dylan Becker, Sydney Sullivan, Haidley and Jeffy Link as well as many special friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lynn Judas and grandson, Brian Reber. A funeral service for Don will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Pete Zietlow will preside and burial will follow the service at the Shields Cemetery, town of Shields, Marquette County. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family for a donation to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Don.
