David “Dave” W. Thomley , age 68 of Montello, WI passed away peacefully at his home on July 13th, 2018. He was born and raised in Manitowoc and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968. Dave received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Education with a minor in music from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He was also a member of the University Orchestra as a violinist.
Dave taught in the Montello School District for 20 years. He went on to work for the State of Wisconsin with the workforce development board as an employment and training specialist for 14 years. Dave finished his working career with Bonded Collectors of Portage, retiring in 2016.
Dave was an avid history and music buff. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and working in the yard. He was also a well-known musician in the Manitowoc area; Dave played guitar for the popular local band, Beale Street 4 for 22 years. His hobbies included building bird houses, assembling car models and also writing and listening to music. Dave further enjoyed serving as a board member for the Montello Historic Preservation Society and helping with events for the museum.
Dave is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kristine and son, Travis (Dacia) of Portage. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Mary) of Brewster, MA, sister-in-law, Barbara Swiggum of Manitowoc as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Geraldine, sister, Carol Hedrick, sister-in-law, Sandra (Michael) Schwartz and mother and father in-law, Norman and Lois O’Leske.
A memorial service for David Thomley will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until the time of service. Pastor Mike Vargo will preside and private family inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in David’s name be given to Budda-Box of Marquette County to help others with cancer or the Montello Historic Preservation Society to keep history alive.
