David Bevan

April 2, 1930 — January 14, 2013

David Arthur Bevan, age 82 of Westfield (formerly of Cornish, New Hampshire) passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 14, 2013 at the American Way CBRF in Portage. He was born on April 2, 1930 in Troy, New York to the late Reverend Dr. Frank W. Bevan and Frances W. Bevan and spent his summers in Maine at their cottage where he developed a love of nature, water and boats. Dave earned a degree in business at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute near Troy and later became a certified accountant. He married Susan Duffie of Ohio in 1951 and after a brief stay in Troy, New York they moved to Danville, Vermont where they purchased a small farm with a view of the White Mountains and started a family. Eventually they settled in Cornish on 150 acres where they raised their four children and many animals. Dave was known for his gentle, kind spirit, sense of humor and his love of buying and fixing up old cars and houses. He was a skilled handyman who loved working on the farm, driving tractors, helping with the horses, chickens, rabbits, dogs and cats. David is survived by his three daughters, Deborah Ann Bevan of Westfield, Elizabeth Marie Bevan of North Carolina and Sally Sue Bevan of New Hampshire and his second wife of seven years, Margie Snyder Crotser Bevan. David is preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Duffie and his son, William Whittier Bevan as well as two half-sisters: Janet B. Otto and Elizabeth 'Betty' B. White. We are so very grateful to Cindy Deal for her loving partnership with Sally for many years and for being a wonderful sister-daughter-friend to our whole family. The family would also like to express much gratitude to American Way of Portage and Saint Jude Hospice of Madison for their care and support of David in his final months. Following David's wishes, he has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Cornish, New Hampshire. Donations may be given to the New Hampshire Humane Society, 1305 Meredith Center Road, Laconia, NH, 03246. www.nhhumane.org. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is honored to be serving the family. www.CrawfordFH.com
