Clarence "Sonny" Klawitter

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father, Clarence “Sonny” E. Klawitter on Christmas Day, December 25, 2021.

Sonny was born on the family farm in Montello on May 31, 1936 to Elmer and Phoebe (Nelson) Klawitter. As a child growing up he attended the “Irish Schoolhouse” for his primary education, which was within walking distance from the family farm. On January 14 ^th , 1956 he married Judith “Judy” Jensen at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Montello and they were blessed with five children; Carla, Brenda, Brian, Sara and Jenny.

Throughout his life, Sonny worked on the family farm and was also employed by the Marquette County Highway Dept. During his time at the Highway Dept he served as the Patrol Superintendent for Marquette County and retired after 40 years of faithful employment. Sonny was a social person and could be found at the Hilltop Café for morning coffee, and lively discussion and playful banter, which he enjoyed doing with his friends.

Survivors include his four daughters: Carla (Dave) Henke, Brenda, Sara (Kim) Wilson, and Jenny (Tom) Shier. He is also survived by six grandchildren: David (Noemi), Adam, Janell (Jeff), Laura (Ron), Joseph, and Kailey. Sonny is further survived by great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, and many friends.

Preceding Sonny in death are his parents, Elmer (Phoebe) Klawitter, wife, Judith “Judy”, son, Brian, grandson, Fletcher, sisters: Dorothy (Norbert) Gorsuch and Betty (Jack) Howe.

A funeral service for Sonny will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. A visitation will be held from 4 PM until the hour of service. Pastor Mike Vargo will preside and a private family burial will take place the following day at the Montello City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that will be established in Sonny’s name.
