Claire L. Alexander, age 87 of Montello passed away early Sunday morning, June 15, 2014 at Tivoli in Portage. Claire was born in Portage on December 21, 1926 to Robert and Ethel (Thatcher) Alexander. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. Claire attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Claire was a licensed Registered Professional Electrical Engineer and completed many electrical designs on several hospitals and other large facilities in the state. Claire was a past member and president of the Montello Lions Club as well as a past member and commander of Montello Legion Post 351. He also served as a member and the Board Chairman of the Marquette County Board of Supervisors.
Survivors include: his wife, Susan and two children: Mary (Rick) Oakes of Montello and Edward (fiancAC. Cyndi) of Princeton and three grandchildren: Nicole (Nathan) Sidwell, Alex (fiancAC. Erica) and Luke (Sarah) as well as three great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Lucy and Morgan. He is also survived by four children from his first marriage: Mary Lynn of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Bill and John, both of Chicago and Randall (Suzanne) of Madison.
Claire is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert and sister, Ethel and son, Michael. Following Claire's wishes, private family services will be held and he will be inurned at the Montello City Cemetery.
