Owen “Chick” C. Phelps, age 89 of Endeavor went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2023 at UW Hospital in Madison. Chick was born in LaSalle, Quebec, Canada on March 29, 1933 to Thomas and Lily (Owen) Phelps. Having fulfilled an apprenticeship for plumbing, steam fitting and welding, he came to the US. Chick worked for American Motors in Racine for 32 years and also had his own plumbing business and expedited freight. He moved to Endeavor in 2000 and married Crystal (Brickner) Pomplun on October 20, 2012 at the Oxford Bible Church.
Chick enjoyed riding his motorcycle, being a member of Christian Motorcyclists Association, traveling, woodworking, music, socializing with everybody and bird watching. He and Crystal enjoyed traveling, family and each other. Chick will be remembered for his generosity, good nature and willingness to help others.
Chick leaves behind his wife, Crystal, daughter, Laurie (Dr. Jack) Mahjasain of Grand Rapids, MI and son, Christopher (Karen) of Waukesha as well as four grandchildren: Alexandra (Kevin) Miller, McKenzie (Spencer) Nehls, Nicole and Ashley Phelps. He is also survived by four stepchildren: Dawn (John) Weishaar, Matthew (Carol) Pomplun, Yvonne (Clint) Clark and Sarah (Clifton) Johnson as well as fourteen step-grandchildren: Joshua (Erin) Weishaar, Jacob (fiancé, Kate Keel) Weishaar, Dr. Krystal Weishaar, Justin (Amy) Weishaar, Jonathan Weishaar, Kaitlin Weishaar, Ryan, Isabel and Abigail Pomplun, Rachel (Hendrik) Feenstra, Elizabeth and Naomi Clark, Alexis Zellmer and Trevor Zellmer. Chick is further survived by five step-great-grandchildren: Calvin, Imogene, Dakota, Ezekiel and Scout as well as brothers-in-law: Ray Brickner and Dr. Jack (Dorothy) Brickner.
Chick is preceded death by his parents and siblings: Ada (Thomas) Houseman, Beatrice Phelps, Ruth Thomas, and Dorothy Phelps and special nieces: Colleen, Patricia and Joanne Thomas.
A funeral service of Owen “Chick” Phelps will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Oxford Bible Church. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. Pastor Robert Stickler will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Westfield East Cemetery.
