Charles 'Chuck' Contreras, age 59 of Montello, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, March 18, 2010 at Meriter Hospital in Madison. Chuck was one of five children, born on January 20, 1951, in Los Angeles, CA to Robert and Lillian (White) Contreras. He married Linda Singles on May 14, 1983 here in Montello. Chuck, also known as 'Eagle Cry' was a member of the Gabrieleno / Tongva Nation. He was a natural teacher and a very spiritual man who touched many lives. Many knew him as a very caring and loving man, but he will be remembered most for the father figure he was, not only to his own children, but to many children in Montello and the surrounding area. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include: wife, Linda, four children: Sammi and Toni both of Montello and Gina and Charles Jr. both of California. Five grandchildren: Victor, Valerie, Derion, Chuck and Daniel as well as brother, Michael of California and sisters, Marcella (Louie) Madrid of Nevada and Judy (Bryan) Carter of California. Chuck is further survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, special friends and the many children of the Montello School who meant so much to him. Preceding Chuck in death are his parents and brothers: Robby and Donny Sr. as well as Tia Pearl and Lupe Omatta. A Ceremonial Gathering will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the home of Linda Contreras, 73 Church Street, Montello, WI 53949. A fire will be lit in his honor. Please bring a dish to pass for the feast and a lawn chair. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
