Carol Schumann

Carol Jean Schumann , age 76 of Montello passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at Iola Living Assistance CBRF in Iola.  Carol was born in the town of Birnamwood near Wittenberg, Wisconsin to Dewey and Lydia (Yeager) Fuhrmann on April 11, 1943.  She graduated from Wittenberg High School and went on to proudly serve her country as a member of the United States Navy from 1962 until 1964.  She married Norman Dean McElroy and together they had one son, Dewey and later divorced.  Carol married Donald Schumann in November of 1988 and together they enjoyed life on the shores of Buffalo Lake until his passing in 2017.

Carol enjoyed fishing, sewing, upholstery and gardening.  She also enjoyed going for drives and most of all helping other people.  Carol’s service to her country was very important to her and she was proud to have recently participated in the Ageless Aviation Dreams Flight.  Throughout her life, she worked at various places, mostly AMPI in Shawano.  Carol was an active member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Montello and her caring spirit will be greatly missed.

Carol leaves behind her son, Dewey McElroy of Rochester and two sisters: Gertrude “Trudy” Bratz of Burien, WA and Cynthia “Cindy” Meverden of Birnamwood.  She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald, brother: Gustave, brothers-in-law: David Bratz and George Meverden and step-sons: David and Donn Schumann.

A funeral service for Carol Schumann will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello.  Visitation will be from 4:00 until 5:45 PM.  Pastor Pete Zietlow will preside and full military honors will follow the service. Following the traditional service, Carol will be cremated and inurnment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Wittenberg.  In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for several memorials that will be established in Carol’s name.
