Carl J. Voigtlander Jr., age 81 of Packwaukee passed away Monday evening, January 21, 2013 at his home. He was born in Gilman, IL to Carl and Margaret (Jonas) Voigtlander Sr. Carl valiantly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and later married Thelma Louise Houston on July 3, 1950 in Hernando, Mississippi. They moved to Packwaukee in August of 1967. Carl enjoyed gardening, raising herbs for his own tinctures. He was also a bee keeper and achieved brown belt status in Tae Kwon Do and was a golden gloves boxer in his younger years. Carl served as a trustee for the Packwaukee Library as well as serving on the Packwaukee Town Board. He enjoyed spending time with his family very much and they will cherish those memories always. Carl leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Thelma Louise and five children: Carl (Sheila) of Berlin, Debbie Brackett of Alabama, Chris (Patricia) of Greenville, Mark (Tammy) of Baraboo and James of Baraboo. He is also survived by six grandsons, six granddaughters and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Carl is further survived by a sister, Audrey Janas of Elmhurst, IL. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank and a sister, Shirley Schneider. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Crawford Funeral Home. A memorial gathering will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Pastor John Cocomise will preside and a private family inurnment will follow with full military honors at Underhill Cemetery, Packwaukee Township.
