Betty Ann Nelson, age 83, of Montello, WI passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, October 9, 2010 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Loves Park, IL on September 20, 1927 to William and Vera (Basuier) Shenberger. Betty graduated from Swedish American Hospital's nursing program in 1948 and married Peter Nelson on August 8, 1953 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL. Betty worked in the medical offices of Doctors Fredberg and Darland for many years until she moved from the Rockford area to Montello in 1990. She was a very caring person; she was a nurse to countless individuals and touched many lives throughout her career and life. Betty was one of the founding members of The Peoples Church in Montello. She enjoyed: baking, knitting, crocheting, flower gardening and most of all family gatherings at her home on Williams Lake. Survivors include: son, Scott (Marianne) and grandson Graham of Elgin, IL as well as siblings: Phyllis Mercer, Dorothy Nelson and William (Jean) Shenberger all of Montello. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews as well as numerous god children. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, Clarence (Caroline) Shenberger and brothers-in-law, Don Mercer and Herb Nelson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 12:00 noon at The Peoples Church, 3045 15th Rd, Montello with Pastor Mark Hensley officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Scandinavia Cemetery in Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Peoples Church or Home Health United Hospice. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is serving the family. www.CrawfordFH.com
