Bernadette "Bernie" D. Marsh (nee Golla), age 72 of Montello passed away Monday evening, November 3, 2014 at UW Hospital in Madison from injuries she sustained in an accident that took place on Saturday, November 1st. She was born in Chicago on May 31, 1942 to Alphonse and Scholastica (Sankey) Golla. Bernie attained a bachelor's degree from Edgewood College in Madison and furthered her education at Northern Illinois University. She worked for many years in Illinois caring for the sick and dying as a medical technologist and later retired to Montello. Bernie was an active person; she volunteered at both Trinity United Methodist Church and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, both of Montello. She loved to garden, sew and even go fishing. Bernie would say that some of the happiest years of her life were spent in Montello and enjoyed spending time with her friends, family and serving her community. Bernie is survived by her two children: Matthew of La Grange, IL and Jennifer (Peter) Caravella of Montello as well as three grandchildren: Beau, Chris and Maeve. She is also survived by four siblings: Edward (Ann) Golla, Margaret (Robert) Klapproth, Paul (Donna) Golla and Francis Golla as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Bernie is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sister Marie Golla. A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernadette will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the church. Father Tim Renz will preside and burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8th at St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family for a memorial that is being established.
