Bernadette is also preceded in death by her treasured second husband of 34 years, Harry J. Foote of Oxford who died in 2000.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Kasza, brother, Eric Tyczkowski, and sister, Natalie (Carl) Tucholka. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren, Claire (Brian) Peters, Jeanne (Anthony) Kasza-James, Timothy (Amy) Kasza, Kyle Matusinec, and Colette (Tom) Walsh, eleven great- grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra, Marina, Reese, Emma, India, Avalon, Rianna, Kayla, Michael and Elena, and two great-great grandchildren: Sophia and Gwendolyn (due in October). She is further survived by her many nieces, nephews, and step-family: Charles Foote (d. 1969), Wendell (Delores) Foote, Karen (Julius) Julson, Lyndon (Ruth) Foote, niece, Judy Larson and her many wonderful friends who were as close as family and meant so much to her.
Bernadette, "Bernie" to her friends, was born on October 29, 1922 the eldest of the nine children of Joseph and Charlotte Tyczkowski. She grew up and married in Milwaukee, where her children were born. Bernadette and Joe moved to Oxford in 1953 and opened the Stop and Shop grocery store under the fondly remembered DX sign. After the store closed, she worked in the Oxford Grade School cafeteria, the Green Giant canning factory, Oxford Convalescent Home, and Coddington's/Borud's Hardware, from where she retired from at 70+ years old.
In addition to working hard, she dedicated her life to serving her community. She volunteered at the Village Library, the food pantry, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6003, St. Ann's church, and many other community events like the Corn 'N Tater festival. She knew all her neighbors and her family lovingly referred to her as the "social secretary" of Oxford. She was a proud member of the "Happy Hookers" crochet club and the Monday morning coffee clutch at Frannie Mae's. She will long be remembered for her sly humor and sharp wit. Her capacity for love was beyond measure and she will be deeply missed by those who had the honor of knowing her.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernadette Foote will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 3:00 pm at St. Ann Catholic Church in Brooks.
