Beatrice Calnin

Beatrice “Tootie” Ellen Calnin , age 92 of Montello passed away peacefully Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Harris Villa Assisted Living in Westfield surrounded by her family.  Beatrice was born at home in Montello to John and Sylvia (Leonard) Giencke on June 29, 1929.  She graduated from Montello High School in 1946 and married James Calnin on August 7, 1948 in Montello.   They raised their seven children while farming in the Town of Shields; James preceded Beatrice in death on October 2, 2006.

Beatrice was a loyal friend and neighbor.  If you knew her, you had likely received a batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies or an apple pie.  Beatrice loved to read and took great pride in her yard, flowers and their appearance.  Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family.

Beatrice is survived by her children:  William (Christine), Joseph (Kim), Jerry (Dawn) all of Montello, Barbara (James) Meuer of Verona, Kathy (Joseph) Chase of Sun Prairie, Mary (Darreld) Sek of Lake Bluff, IL and Jean (James) Stiefbold of Mt. Prospect, IL as well as fourteen grandchildren.  She is also survived by twenty-three great-grandchildren and other extended family members.

Beatrice is preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandchildren: Nicole Calnin, Jed Leiknes, Matthew Leiknes and siblings: John “Jack” (Margaret) Giencke, Harley Giencke, Betty (Erv) Schmudlach, Orla (Milo) Jones and Leona (George) Riddle and several other extended family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Beatrice Calnin will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:45 AM.  Father Savio Yerasani and Father James McNamee will concelebrate the Mass and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
