Arnold Singles

Arnold 'Arnie' K. Singles, age 77, of Montello passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, March 16, 2011 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. Arnie was born on June 30, 1933 in Midland, Michigan and he married Joanne Skinner on June 28, 1958. Arnie owned and operated Singles Roofing Company in Elgin and also in the Montello/Westfield area for over 40 years. In 1980 he moved to Montello, he and his wife owned and operated the Montello Resort (now known as the Bayview resort) on Montello Lake. Arnie was a hard worker; he also enjoyed fishing, gardening and he also had a passion for ice racing. Arnie leaves behind his wife, Joanne of 52 years, four children: Chuck (Teresa) of Freeport, IL, Arnold Jr. of Westfield, Jennifer Marchand of Portage and Linda Contreas of Montello. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sebastian, Nick, Megan, Trenton, Mason, Samantha and Tony as well as one sister, Irene (James) Warner and one brother Edmond (Rose) Singles. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Arnie is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Gudmundson as well as two brothers and two sisters. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home; there will be no service. Following the visitation, friends are welcome to gather at American Legion Post 351 in Montello. Arnold will be cremated following the visitation and inurned in the Montello City Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
