Alice L. M. Lischefske, age 96 of Montello passed away Friday afternoon, September 30, 2011 at her home. She was born in Montello at the home of her parents Albert and Esther (McIntyre) Schmidt on April 28, 1915. Alice was confirmed in her faith on April 27, 1930 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church and she graduated from Montello High School in 1933. Following high school, she graduated from Garfield Park Community Hospital's Nursing Program in Chicago. She married Justus Spillner in 1940 in Chicago and from that union came two sons: Justus Jr. and John. Justus was killed in 1945 during World War II at the battle on Iwo Jima. She later married Fred Lischefske in Montello in 1946, from that marriage came three children: Janet, Joanne and Judy. Alice worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at the Divine Savior Nursing Home and Hospital in Portage. She also was the chairperson for the Marquette County Blood Bank for many years, as well as being an active member of both the American Legion Auxiliary and the Montello Women's Club. Alice was an active member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church where she served as a member of the ladies's aid. She was a goodwill ambassador; she assisted many people in any way she could. Alice demonstrated a strong Christian faith, exemplified and advocated strong moral character and had a great sense of humor. She was indeed a loyal and faithful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and cousin. Alice will always be remembered for her generosity in both her deeds and actions. Alice is survived by four children: Justus (Janice) Spillner of Montello, John (Li) Spillner of Montello, Janet (Larry) Waldman of Stitzer, Judith (Terry) Meinen of Altoona. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren as well as a brother Albert (Darlene) Schmidt of Johnson Creek. She is further survived by numerous other family members and a very dear friend, Eloise Schultz. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one infant daughter, Joanne and two infant siblings, Edwin and Alma as well as three other siblings: Carroll, Phyllis and Duane. She is also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tammy Jo and two great-grandchildren: Braeden and Sara. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Montello. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home and again from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the church. Pastor Pete Zietlow will preside and burial will follow at the Eastside Cemetery in Montello. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
